What age will you be in Heaven?

  • Time is only relevant here on earth not in heaven. Age of the body is merely a factor of time as we perceive

  • Ps 90:4 A thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by,

2 Peter 3But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.

In these verses it clearly states that one day to God is like a thousand years to man. This simile simply brings out one of the fundamental aspects about God that where he exists in his ontos ('truly existing by nature and glory as one God') it is void of times perception and influence. I believe this figure of speech was mentioned to show that time only became relevant to man when the fall occurred because it was a way for man to comprehend the effects of sin on all creation. I say that because if the fall never occurred would there be a need for man to perceive time considering that all creation would be eternal and perfect. Considering all this, time only becomes relevant to man only where change occurs and the opposite would also hold true that where everything is perfect and never decays time becomes completely irrelevant.

With that said the effect of the body growing old and dyeing came strictly as side effect of the fall and the introduction of sin into all creation.

Romans 5:12 Sin entered the world because one man sinned. And death came because of sin. Everyone sinned, so death came to all people.

The curse which God stated in Gen 3 condemned everything created to grow old and return to the dust including man.

Genesis 3:19 By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return.”

  • How did God create? That is to say when God created all living things in the week of creation what did they look like?

Adam and Eve were created fully mature and did not appear to age until the affects of sin started the ageing process.

Animals created fully mature in Genesis 1

20 And God said, “Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the vault of the sky.” 21 So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living thing with which the water teems and that moves about in it, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth.” 23 And there was evening, and there was morning—the fifth day.

Man and Woman also created fully mature.

26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” 27 So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them. 28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”………………… 31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day

  • Will we be perfect like Adam and Eve in heaven? How old were they if we compare them to us?

It’s a logical assumption to think that we would be similar to Adam looking at the creation account however the Bible doesn’t say we will be like Adam or Eve in heaven. If we look at the account of how God created everything I think that we can get an idea of what our new bodies may look like. Obviously a question like this can’t be answered fully answered since both of them were created ageless and fully mature then remained in that state until sin changed everything and they started growing old. Attempting a comparison like this from our perspective of a time frame corrupted by the effects of sin can be a little confusing since we would consider someone would be fully mature when they become an adult and their quality of life has not began to diminish.

  • Heaven will be similar and different from the state of Adam and Eve had in the garden. Similar in that we will have a relationship with God that was had lost through the fall and different in that we will no longer be like Adam who was susceptible to the influences of sin and vulnerable to its effects which caused ageing and death. As a child of God, sin and its effects have been completely removed by Christ forever therefore one will never show the effects of sin which is no longer present i.e. ageing.

At the mount of transfiguration story Moses and Elijah in spirit were seen as mature men and recognized by everyone present also in the story of Lazarus and the rich man we see the same thing.

  • So maybe a better question is not how old will our new bodies be when they are given to us but what will these bodies be like?

Our new bodies will be like Jesus’s resurrected body.

1 John 3 Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears,[a] we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.

Philippians 3:20-21 20 But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for him to return as our Savior. 21 He will take our weak mortal bodies and change them into glorious bodies like his own, using the same power with which he will bring everything under his control.

Our bodies will be perfect like his:

1 Corinthians 15:45

If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. 45 So it is written: “The first man Adam became a living being”[f]; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit. 46 The spiritual did not come first, but the natural, and after that the spiritual. 47 The first man was of the dust of the earth; the second man is of heaven. 48 As was the earthly man, so are those who are of the earth; and as is the heavenly man, so also are those who are of heaven. 49 And just as we have borne the image of the earthly man, so shall we bear the image of the heavenly man.

They will have flesh and bones and was able to eat just like Christ’s did.

Luke 24 36 While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” 37 They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost. 38 He said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds? 39 Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.”40 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and feet. 41 And while they still did not believe it because of joy and amazement, he asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?” 42 They gave him a piece of broiled fish, 43 and he took it and ate it in their presence.

We will never grow old or die again.

Romans 6:9 For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him.
